About the Show
David ventures out of the Obox HQ to the Seacom Conference in Durban.
He meets up with Charl Norman, Jason Bagley and others to see what's going on with Africa's internet breakthrough. They kind of miss the point, fuel their tired bodies with Red Bull and mistake a heavy duty generator for THE INTERNET.

Good point... those companies should pay us for this video :)
If you read the serious link which we provide in the post you will see that we shouldn't expect anything spectacular for the next 5 yrs at least.
The problem is that our infrastructure is not capable of supporting the speeds that this cable provides.

True! Glad I'm livin in the UK for now. It was very frustrating working on the net when I lived in SA.
Speed wise, anything over a 1Meg will do. Even here companies brag about 8meg lines but when you test it you're lucky if you get over 1meg.
Thats where fiber to your door comes in and yes you re right that sort of infrastructure is a long way away for the regular South African internet consumer.
Hopefully this will at least bring down the cost of international bandwidth in SA. More Gigs for your money.

"I can touch the internet, you not touch the interent."
hahaha - my favorite quote.
Great job David, and nice to see a change of scenery.

@Marc - Dude it was cool meeting you. I reckon you gain 10 points just because your name is ends with a 'c' and not a 'k'. Cool stuff... but I must say, you can keep the humidity in Durbz mate.
@Kyle - Jason was classic, he is usually quite out spoken in his blogging, so when I heard he was coming with I had to lean on his character a bit. It would have a been a robbery if I didn't.

That font is working hard... David/Marc, why was this not put on the table during web build pre-production?
No worries, next time. Cheers.

Interesting stuff. Quite funny, I was watching a similar video 2 weeks ago about the new cable coming into Australia (online in September I believe).
