Hey Guys
lol, what was the thing marc kicked at the beginning of the video?
The Twitter point you made is exactly the same as mine. It is very powerful for getting your links around to a target audience ;)
I signed up for the Gravatar lately totally by chance. Highly recommended.
Cheers

@Rick - Hey man, thanks for popping by with a comment! We reckoned that we may be 'preaching to the converted' but knew that there are still some people out there who are not so sure yet.
But I am happy that you agree with what we said. We always worry about what peeps will think once we have uploaded the video!!

Great video guys. Nice motivational twist the videos have taken of late. Definitely adding value. :)
Also, agreed re: Twitter. It's a great resource for discussion and interaction with users that share a common interest. It is also great, as you said, for promotion and feedback. :)

@Jason - Lol, he almost kicked the camera stand... jeeez he was millimeters away from kicking that thing, so I freaked :P
We thought it would be a good laugh to kick off the episode, so we left it in!
@Matt - Thanks Matt, funnily enough this wasn't meant as a motivational video but the more we got into it the more pumped up we were getting... haha, we can be such a bunch of clowns!

Definitely think the sound and picture quality was much better this time - the ones I've dropped in on before Xmas were inaudible at times. Next upgrade though - couple of lapel mics...

Hi, i'm new to web design and don't know any html or css. I want to know which books you would recommend to learn html and css. By the Way Great show guys.
Marc Perel 13 Jan, 2009 09:54:16 AM
@Edwin - the best book to use would be the web. Google's a great resource once you get your search terms waxed. ie. "javascript: Window Resizing" .
Also, a site I use often which helps me is w3schools.com - it has the basics of a lot of different languages.

I think a change isn't a bad idea, just as long as you let your followers know. If you went about changing your name on various blog comment sites, like you mentioned, here you can lose SERP traffic, because not all blogs have nofollows setup.

Completely 100% agree with you guys re: Twitter, keeping your name the same everywhere you spread your idea/ comment on other peoples blogs etc. and building a personal brand, really great video!
One suggestion.. could you maybe move that painting a little further down so we can see more than 1/5 of your moms painting :)

guys good video, ill tell you my situation i lately changed my avatar on twitter from my original avater ( a black vector silouette of me ) i had the avatar for about 6 months, i didnt know whether to change it or not, i changed it to a picture of me and a few people on twitter said that it was much better to have a picture of myself and im glad i changed it.
my username is still designshard but i think that represents the blog more than my name and is easier to remember, i hope the picture of me still adds a personal touch to the blog tho.
I use the new image of me on all my networks now, flickr, stumble, facebook and gravatar.
i also used to comment on blogs with "Max | Design Shard" now i only comment on blogs with "Max" not sure if i should use my full name as i have here.
- any sugestions ? should i comment with full name or just max, as gravar adds a good visual aid and recognition to who has commented.
BTW - every one on my blog loves your guest posts haha, keep up the good work.
David Perel 13 Jan, 2009 18:44:56 PM
@Talya - Unfortunately we can't move it any further. We may take it out from now on...
@Chris - Good point dude, I never thought about that one (SERP)
@Max - Dude, don't thank me for posting on your site. I must thank you!!!
In terms of your question, I reckon you should include your full name dude. Let people start associating your name with your blog.
The problem with having "Max | Design Shard" is if you add a new blog then people may not recognise you as the same person from last time (although the gravatar should sort that out. But what if they dont have gravar functionality?). SO, I say run with Max Stanworth.
BTW, the new picture rocks. I remember the previous one quite clearly and much prefer the one you have now ;)

I love From the Couch! What a great name!
So much fun and perfect timing since I'm going through a bit of a self-branding process at the moment. So thanks a bunch!
I really enjoyed the interaction between the two of you. too.
Grab a beer. You deserve it.
David Perel 14 Jan, 2009 09:48:15 AM
@Deb - Good luck with your endeavor! Please come by again to let us know of the results!!

Great advice on personal branding. The room lighting was better than previous episodes and the sound was Much Better than past shows. Keep up the great work guys!
Ben Kahans 15 Jan, 2009 03:07:28 AM
I think you should also provide summary information because there is not enough interesting content to keep the user interested!
David Perel 17 Jan, 2009 21:14:06 PM
@Nathaneal - Whew, that is a relief... we have been stressing about sound and lighting for soooooooo long!! Glad you enjoyed the show!
@Ben - Unfortunately we cant do summaries because we usually don't know how we are going to end the show. What we will try and do is just give an overview / introduction to our thoughts. My suggestion is to read the copy below the video titled 'About the show'. That gives a reasonable summary as it is only written after we have finished filming. Thanks for the tip though, we never thought about that!!

Hey guys, great show.
It's funny just last night I was giving the exact same advice to a fellow designer, but I think I will link them to this video too just to reconfirm it all.
