About the Show
We have mentioned Project OpenPlain on From the Couch many times before... this is it
Well here it is. Ladies and Gentlemen codename 'Project OpenPlain' is OCMX-Live. OCMX-Live is a Content Managament System for Coldfusion developers. It has progressed a long way since August 2008 and we have decided to let the cat out of the bag with this one. As we start to move over to Wordpress for certain future project's we thought it wouldn't be a train smash to give you a demo of what Marc is capable of.
Enjoy as Marc takes you through our very own Content Management System called 'OCMX-Live'.

@Jason - Hi Jason, haha... customizing the system for each site used to be suuuuch a pain!
As for running the screen demo... I am checking out Camtasia as I type. Thanks for the tips.

Cool CMS guys. The user rights management is a great tool to integrate. :)

I can vouch that the CMS is powerful as I've had hands on experience with it.
I remember when I started blogging, I build my own publishing tool, much like Wordpress, but very narrowed down, so that I could blog in a style I wanted to blog. I used mine for several years until I weighed it up against Wordpress and finally decided that Wordpress was the route to go as I didn't have the time to keep on updating my system and adapting it to the trends which other CMS's were using.
Nice one guys!

@Roy - Thanks dude
@Matt - We created that enhancement before we saw the internals of Wordpress.... then when we went to wordcamp and saw that it wasn't a feature we were blown away. Completely shocked... That App was developed straight after we developed the posts section because we thought it unthinkable to even dream of not having securities in there.
@Chris - Lol, thanks for the props dude. I know it is not Wordpress but it pretty much does everything we need, for now... And it isn't too bad with regards to SEO either ;)

Hey guys it looks great. It seems to have come along way since you demoed it to me last year. Keep up the good work! :)

Hey! It seems a very good product. When will it be available? Will it be someway opensource?
David Perel 19 Jan, 2009 09:40:10 AM
@Rick - Thanks dude, we have been quietly improving on it as we get new clients. Hopefully one day it will be our in the open for more Coldfusion developers.
@Milus - I will send you an email mate ;)

Looks like a really cool, simple CMS guys - also your web designs with obox are beautiful.

Hi Guys,
1) Who is your graphic designer? He does a good job. 2) Is this site run exclusively on that cms platform? 3) :)
Marc Perel 06 May, 2009 17:51:40 PM
@Anthony - Thanks for the comment mate, to answer your questions:
1 . David's the man with the creative skills. I do the boring stuff. 2 . From the Couch is run on OCMX entirely, we find it works best when we need to make changes etc. 3 . B-D <
Antony Carthy 06 May, 2009 19:25:56 PM
@marc Cool beans. You guys do a good job.
Also, you're lucky to have a design guy like David, I would love to have a friend who understands Web 2.0.

Hey I know this is a old post and all but I am wounding,
Why do you guys use coldfusion, I have used it in the past but found its not widely used and getting hosting hard. Why do you use it?
Simon
David Perel 03 Jun, 2009 18:54:10 PM
@Simon - We grew up using Coldfusion so there is a soft spot for it. It also helps when you want to rapidly deploy a site, FtC wouldn't have taken as quick to create if we didn't create it with CF.
We also use PHP and Wordpress but when it comes to our own sites we use CF. We have our own dedicated server in the states so luckily for us hosting is not an issue but we know that it is a pain to find a host.
As far as I know 1million people are using ColdFusion, so it may not be popular in the PHP world but its definitely not underused ;)

David Perel 10 Jan, 2010 21:41:08 PM
When we shot that episode Safari had the Mac look and feel in Windows.
Ben 30 Jan, 2010 21:56:35 PM
That is awesome - I havent seen many people go this far - nice one -
Btw how long ahve you been doing website stuff ? I mean you say you grew up with cold fusion and in another film said you did it at school with your parents I think - you must have been doing this solid for 5-6 yrs ,right?

Jason Barlow 16 Jan, 2009 20:20:05 PM
Hey guys - great system! When you mentioned at the beginning of the video that you were needing to customize for each project, I could relate!! It certainly looks like you've streamlined your system to include the most important features.
On another note, in referece to the product demo, I just wanted to recommend using something like Camtasia for screen capture - I think it allows you to capture a much clearer and brighter screen shot, and you can still narrate along with it via microphone. I'm not affiliated with them at all, but have used them and it's a pretty easy/powerful tool!
