About the Show

In this lesson on marketing David shows you how Obox creates hype around a product which is soon to be launched.

By feeding your potential customers little bits at a time you will create interest and anticipation leading up to launch day.

The example involves David taking a tiny screenshot of one of their upcoming Wordpress themes, uploading it to Flickr and then tweeting about it. His intention is for the people to click on the link and want more once they see the image.

The preview is just enough to give you an idea of the theme but not enough to really know what its like. The anticipation generated from sneak peaks are very powerful when it comes to building up your product before launch day.

Its used to perfection by car manufacturers when they develop new models and this example is almost the same theory.

Very nice teaser. Not only is it perfected by car manufacturers, but movie studios are hugely successful in the "teaser" trailer.

I've never taken crack before, but I itch all over for some more Arcade.

Hi. Interesting post. You're right, teasers DO make the user anticipate the final result more. If you give them everything then they would already "see it all" and would simply forget about it when the release date comes. With teasers release date is always on their mind.

On another note i would like to propose an off topic suggestion, if its not too problematic in this post. I know that this is mostly a design blog for designer community but why not broaden to programming as well? I am sure Marc got some experiences with PHP and ColdFusion he could share. As a programmer, talks about css and such although are interesting but not important to me. I am sure you will have a much larger audience if you once in a while talk about issues like web standards, server side vs. client side information control (i know these are age old topics but its just hypothetical examples). Personally, I would also like to hear not only about whats interesting but also about what matters to me.

On yet another note, your HashOne theme may be viewed by a few more people as my blog has been accepted at blogged.com www.blogged.com/blogs/alex-tech-adventures.html with rating 7 (wonder whats the criteria)

@Alex - Thanks for your suggestion, Marc plans on creating some more PHP and Coldfusion based stuff in the near future. You may think that that is me blowing hot air but to prove my point I went out to the shops today to get Marc a new headphone and mic set for improved sound when he creates some tut's (the previous mic made us sound like we had the flu).

So look forward to some program tuts and discussions coming from my bro. The other thing to note is he has been incredibly busy and tutorials can take 1 - 2 hrs to create which we just don't have at the moment.

But I promise once all the dust has settled he will share what he has learnt in recent weeks ;)

Haha You know it's good when people start comparing themselves to a crackhead...lol I'm pretty psyched about both of these Themes. And it will be awesome when Marc starts some programming tuts. I need to improve on PHP skills :( Cheers!
