I've been a long time fan of from the couch but this is my first time posting. I throughly enjoy the videos you guys put up. It is really an innovative concept and it creates a friendly, discursive atmosphere! Keep up the great work!

This is a superb point to be making. Being a developer for 15 years I used to hate the networking side, it was the big groups of people and not knowing anyone there that was the scary part. Now whenever I go to an event I get to know people firstly from social networking then meet up with them at the event.
This makes me less nervous as there is now an ice breaker (other than the old 'so what do you do' line). The new confidence it gives me already knowing people lets my personality show which results in gaining more work.

In the grand scheme of marketing, the best way to sell anything, including your services, is face to face. There are many psychological reasons for this, to include the fact that people are simply able to talk to and see you.
If you were to look at marketing in terms of effectiveness, at the most effective level would be face to face marketing or selling followed by phone calls, public speaking, advertising, direct mail and at the very least effective would be Internet marketing. The reason: Tons of competition and lack of familiarity. As a matter of fact, one of the greatest ad copy writers ever, Gary Halburt, said that the Internet sucked in terms of marketing because it is so crowded.
However, I think the style of marketing On The Couch uses is excellent because they have figured out that combining and mixing the two methods can be very powerful. Not only that, they have also found that people are tired of READING and they are using video.
Bravo to the next wave of Netrepreneurs!

As always, good content. Even if the couch has changed color. ;) Anyway, good thoughts. I've recently connected--via Twitter--with a film festival happening at Urbana 09. I'm looking forward to the ability of taking that social media connection out into the real world.
But I wanted to say thank you for the "local tweet-ups" idea. It's almost like, "duh! Why didn't I think of that!" but a good idea! I think I may try to organize a tweet-up from my own contact list and see what happens.
