Episode 184 - Murdoch vs. Google

About the Show
David and Marc are concerned about the mentality that is surrounding the latest News culture. As good as citizen journalism can and will be, we still need the pro's and those pro's still need to be paid.
We believe that Murdoch's attitude towards charging for content that he produces is the right way to go.

I think the point you make here about not everyone having access to social media, or even the internet, is an extremely important one. Inevitably, and somewhat ironically, the people most critical of having to pay for news are the people who have the most access to it, free or otherwise. Here in the UK it's absolutely no bother at all to get an internet connection and start getting new from all angles. We're a wealthy, connected society. But that's simply not the case for the maj...

About the Show
In this weeks From the Couch you get a very clear view of our new theme called 'Press'. David screencasts the entire CSS & HTML conversion of the Gallery page.
Marc then takes you on a ride with his latest rant about clients asking for a lot but not giving back, it get's personal but that's how we roll.
Finally while chilling with Marc, David spots a magazine layout that could easily be transferred to the web sphere.
That's like 3 episodes in one, talk about awesomeness.
On a side note:
Some of you may have realised a slight change to the sites layout.
- We now have a banner advert above our videos (it's a test, we may remove it if we see bad results).
- On the home page we now list 'Popular Posts' according to the comments they receive
- We also feature the latest written blog post from our site 'We Are not Freelancers'
Let us know what you think of the changes and if you find them useful! So far the new format of the show has received a positive response which makes us super excited :)

About the Show
We tried to avoid jumping on the bandwagon but it keeps popping into my thoughts so I dragged Marc to the couch so we could have a bit of a rant.
People need to get over themselves with this opinion about Ethics and publishing the documents of Twitter.

@Lisa Ellwood - Hi Lisa, thanks for your response. In my opinion TC is not much more than a tabloid for Internet companies, so that is why I don't see much wrong with them publishing the documents. It is sought of what is expected from a Tabloid. In any case, I see this all as quite mild if you compare it to the politics that exist in Formula 1. TC hasn't even gotten started, we need more drama!...

I think another reason why developers are in general not so well known as designers is because developers are more often than not introverted. They are not so good at public speaking and social interaction> Personally, I think one of the key attributes of a top web developer is someone who knows programming pretty much inside out, from character sets to XML parsers. On top of that, I think they need to be working on something they are passionate about to bring the best of them out. When I am wo...
